Useful things to have to hand
- The room count on your own tenancy, and the key handover date where this is a move-out. In a converted house that means your rooms, not the whole building.
- Whether the floors want doing, and whether you want the oven done, since neither is inside a band.
- For floors: the number of rooms, the number of stair flights, whether hall and landing are carpeted, and whether two receptions were ever opened into one.
- Your road name, and for a flat in one of the car-free High Road schemes the flat number, door code and concierge.
- For housework: how often, roughly how many hours, and how many staircases the place has. Stairs predict a visit length round here better than bedrooms do.
What shifts a start time

Settling up
Cards are fine, Visa, Mastercard and Amex all included, and so are bank transfer and cash. Households on the weekly round usually settle up monthly by transfer, while landlords and agents are invoiced.

If it goes wrong
After a move-out, ring the same number within two days of the check-out and whatever the clerk wrote up against our clean is put right for nothing. That is quicker for everybody than a fortnight of email. Where an inventory clerk raised it, ask them for the report itself and forward it, because an agent passing a complaint along almost never names the item that was marked down.
