Monster Cleaning Wood Green sells carpet cleaning by the room: £36 a bedroom, £43 a living room, £61 where two receptions have been opened into one, and £41 for each flight of stairs. Rugs are £35 up to 3m² and £51 above it. The method is hot water extraction, worked slowly with a pre-spray first and a careful rinse pass after it.

The Noel Park staircase picks the machine, not the room
The estate east of the High Road went up from 1883 for the Artizans and General Properties Company and it is a conservation area now, so what was built is still what is there. One narrow single flight per house, a turn near the top, treads about the width of a large wand and a bannister leaving no room beside it. A full sized extraction head simply will not sit on those treads. We work them with a hand tool on a short hose, kneeling, one tread at a time, which is slow and is the honest reason a flight carries its own £41 rather than disappearing into a room price. Machinery here gets sized for the stair rather than for the room, and it is the first question we ask about a Noel Park address.
Small front rooms with the chimney breast still in
The front rooms on that estate were built small and most still have the original chimney breast standing proud of the wall. That gives you two alcoves, four extra internal corners and a hearth edge to work round in a room a modern flat would cover in six straight passes. Edge and corner work per square metre is far higher than the floor area suggests. It does not change the £36. It changes how long the slot is booked for, and a room booked short is a room done badly.
Extraction against the two things people compare it with
A bonnet pad buffs the surface. Your carpet looks well that afternoon and turns grey again inside a fortnight, because the soil underneath wicks straight back up. Powder systems get roughly halfway into the tuft and give up there. What neither one touches is the sand and grit lying at the very bottom of the pile, and that is the material sawing through the fibre every time somebody crosses the room. Extraction pushes heated solution all the way down under pressure and draws it back through the same wand, soil included. It is slower and it is wetter. It is also the only one of the three that reaches the bottom. Leftover detergent is what makes a pile re-soil in weeks, so we run one careful rinse pass rather than three hurried ones.
Flats over the High Road parade
Stairs and lifts decide how long the set-up takes. Tell us if you are in a flat over a shop or in one of the car-free blocks and the time to bring the kit up is built into the slot, so the rooms at the top get the same attention as a ground floor lounge. In the newer schemes we arrange the load-in with you and the concierge ahead of the day.
What a whole flat comes to
A room price only tells part of the story, so here is a whole flat worked through. A two bedroom converted flat with a hall, a living room and no stairs of its own counts as £22 plus £43 plus £72, which is £137. A Noel Park terrace taken as one house adds a flight at £41 and a landing at £9. The hall and the landing sit on lines of their own, and both are worked with the small tool, since neither takes long straight passes. One off bookings meet a £67 minimum, so a lone bedroom at £36 is charged at £67 while any two rooms clear it without anybody noticing. Booked alongside a move-out clean, floors are simply added to the band at a lower rate (£29 a bedroom, £36 a living room) and there is no minimum to think about.
Drying
Two hours before a room takes feet in socks with a window open, nearer four before heavy furniture goes back on top. February with the heating off pushes both out, and a top floor flat with sealed windows pushes them further. Say the word and we leave an air mover blowing on the staircase until it is usable. Keep shoes off until the pile is dry the whole way down, because a damp carpet picks up everything on the hall floor.
Wool on the Alexandra Park slope
West of the High Road the houses get bigger and a fair number kept a decent wool carpet, sometimes laid straight over boards with no underlay under it. Wool takes less water and a slower pass, and it browns badly if it is soaked and then left, so those rooms get more dry passes and longer to dry. The figures on the Alexandra Park page are the same ones printed here.
Marks that lift
Traffic lanes down a hallway come up well. So does tea, so does mud walked off Ducketts Common or down from the park, and so do pet accidents caught reasonably fresh. Coffee, red wine and the grey path worn in front of a sofa all respond to a pre-spray and a slow rinse pass, and you see the difference before the machine is packed away.
Upholstery on the same visit
A hand version of the wand does soft furnishings off the same machine, run light so more water comes back than went in. Prices per piece: £57 for a two seater sofa, £35 for a mattress, £33 for an armchair and £13 for a dining chair. Curtains are sold on the drop at £42 long and £35 short, and they are done on the pole, since anything taken down and cleaned flat can end up an inch off the sill. The long drops mostly come from the taller windows west of the High Road. Nothing over a two seater carries a printed figure: describe the arms and the fabric and you get the number in the call, because those two settle the hour and the length never does. Leather gets its own treatment, cleaned and then conditioned by hand so it stays supple.
Before we knock, and what happens next
Move what you can. Two of us will shift a sofa or a bed between us, wardrobes stay put and we work round them. Lift the small rugs off, take the bins out and put a pad under anything with a metal foot, or you get a rust ring in the pile while it dries. We carry pads for that. Floor work runs the length of the round, Bounds Green at the top and Harringay at the bottom, at the same prices from one end to the other. Count your rooms and ring 020 8077 9085, or look through the rest of the list first.
Questions we get asked
How much is carpet cleaning in Wood Green?
A bedroom is £36 and a living room £43. Two receptions opened into one is £61 and each stair flight £41. Rugs run £35 below 3m² and £51 above. One off work meets a £67 minimum, so most visits are built out of two rooms rather than one.
Can you clean a narrow Noel Park staircase?
Yes, with a hand tool and a short hose rather than the full wand, which will not sit on treads that width. It is slower work and it is why a flight is priced separately at £41. Mention the stair when you book so the slot is long enough.
When is the carpet usable again?
Roughly two hours in socks with a window cracked open, and the best part of a day before the pile has dried the whole way down. Winter with the windows shut stretches both, which is why we avoid booking floors the night before an inventory.
Will extraction get rid of a pet smell?
Where the accident stayed in the pile, usually. Where it soaked through the underlay into the floorboards, cleaning the carpet treats about a third of the problem and masks the rest for a fortnight. We tell you which one you have before taking the booking.
Do you move the furniture?
Whatever two people can lift safely. Sofas and beds yes, loaded wardrobes and pianos no. The more floor you have cleared by the time we knock, the more carpet gets done inside the hour you are paying for.
What is a through lounge and why is it £61?
Two receptions knocked into one long room, common in the terraces here and on the Harringay Ladder. It is one continuous stretch with no doorway break, so it takes about half as long again as a single reception rather than twice as long. That is £61 instead of £43.
